Wauconda school shows Cubs support

Students, teachers and staff at Wauconda Grade School showed their support of the Chicago Cubs ahead of Wednesday night's wild-card game against the Pittsburg Pirates.

About half of the school's 660 students in grades preschool through fifth grade wore Cubs shirts or red, white and blue clothing. Cubs coloring sheets were proudly displayed on the hallway lockers.

The teachers' lounge was decorated with Cubs tablecloths and the win flag. An array of food was prepared for a luncheon that included standard ballpark fare of hot dogs and peanuts.

School Principal Debbie Monroe said she has been a Cubs fan since 1969 and is excited to show support for the team.

"As a whole, our school has been following them all year and are really excited about the strides they have made. They're just looking better and better every day, and we just want to support them the best way we can," Monroe said.

Students also painted Cubs posters in art class, watched game highlights during lunch. Teachers won Cubs gear in a raffle.
