Carmel claims top 2A honors in Peoria

Girls cross country

Led by Zella Stockhausen, Carmel Catholic's girls cross country team won the Class 2A Peoria invitational on Saturday.

The Corsairs (110) won by 3 points over Peoria Notre Dame. Stockhausen placed 13th with a time of 18:22. Aileen Hull was 19th (18:39), with Gabby Terselic (18:50) and Lauren Laughlin (19:02) finishing 23rd and 27th, respectively. The Corsairs' other contributors included Molly Machala (32nd, 19:12), Bella Day (58th, 19:56) and Lauren Caffarelli (60th, 19:58).

Carmel coach Jim Halford said his team set a school record with an 18:49 average and a 50-second split.

Grant wins: At Cooks Park, Grant defeated Wauconda (15-50) and Round Lake (15-50).

Madison Romig of Grant took first place with an 18:29, just edging out teammate and freshman Danielle Osmon, who placed second (18:31).

Grant swept the top seven places.

Wauconda's top finisher was Dakota Thompson. She took eighth with a 21:22.
