Wilson, Prospect in fine form in Peoria

Prospect junior Brooke Wilson is starting to find her groove.

Last weekend, the Knights junior took second in a tough field at the Palatine Invitational. She added to her momentum on Saturday by taking first in 16:51.55, leading Prospect to the Peoria Central Invitational title with 45 points in the 30-team field at Detweiller Park in Peoria.

Wilson secured the fifth-fastest time on the state course this season, crossing the finish line with a 49-second cushion over Hoffman Estate senior Meagan Biddle (17:40.17).

Prospect place five runners in the top 22.

Freshman Marissa Valentini (17:41.69) took third, followed by junior Aileen White (17:58.34) in eighth. Freshman Jenna Baltes (18:06.7) and sophomore Mikayla Olsen (18:22.29) finished the scoring for the Knights by going 11th and 22nd.

Biddle hit a career-best on the state course in leading Hoffman Estates to a sixth-place finish with 210 points. Sophomore Allison Schrader (18:32.4) and senior Carly Dagen (18:34.6) took 28th and 30th for the Hawks.

Buffalo Grove senior Kaitlyn Ko (17:58.66), a two-time state medalist, had one of her best runs of the season in finishing in ninth place. The Bison senior is returning is returning from an early season injury and helped BG secure 11th place as a team.

Senior Gabby Sanchez (18:43.4) finished in 37th place, leading Rolling Meadows to 13th place.

Senior Melissa Rodriguez (18:51.04) took 45th place in helping Wheeling take 18th place.

Downer Grove North (93 points) took second place, followed by Oswego (118 points), Huntley (149 points), and Plainfield North (167 points).
