For Scout Foundation raises $6,640 at St. Charles swim meet

The For Scout Foundation held a "Pink Out" fundraiser at a St. Charles swim meet Oct. 1.

Swimmers from St. Charles North and St. Charles East high schools donned pink swim caps in honor of Madison "Scout" Cantrell.

The Cantrell family established the For Scout Foundation within the Community Foundation in 2015 in memory of 9-year-old Scout, who passed away on Oct. 29, 2014 due to complications from an asthma attack. Scout was an avid swimmer and a member of St. Charles' swim team. Scout's sister Katie is currently a freshman on St. Charles North High School's swim team.

Darryl Mellema, writing for the Daily Herald, reported on the fundraiser in an Oct. 1 article, "St. Charles swimmers come together at Pink Out."

While St. Charles North won the meet, everybody had something to celebrate as the event raised $6,640 for the For Scout Foundation. Money raised by the fund goes toward the support of causes that were important to Scout, such as local animal shelters. The fund also contributes to the American Asthma Association and asthma research.
