Two stores closing in downtown Wheaton

Two specialty stores will soon close in downtown Wheaton.

On Monday, the owner of Home Again, a home decor consignment store at 123 W. Wesley St., announced on Facebook that the shop's doors are closing in mid-October.

"This was not an easy decision," owner Barb Collings said in the Facebook post. "I have met many wonderful people and made some great friends along the way. Our consignors and shoppers are among the very best. I feel lucky to have been part of such a wonderful community."

Collings said she believes there is a need for home decor consignment, but she decided not to sell her business because Home Again has been "a labor of love" and she could not imagine turning it over to someone else.

Hours at the store - which has been open for five years - are being changed to 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. Discounts are being marked on all remaining inventory and anyone consigning items at the shop can call or email the store to have their items pulled off the sales floor.

"Thank you for your support over the years and understanding as this adventure comes to a close," Collings said.

In addition, after 14 years in business, Thia & Co. at 519 W. Front St. is closing. The store offered invitations, party favors and accessories for various celebrations, including weddings, births, christenings and showers.

"Now is the time for Thia & Co. to say goodbye as we move on to a new chapter in our lives," owners Mary Ellen and Dan Fyock said in a statement.

All merchandise in the store has been marked at 50 percent off. When the store closes Sept. 30, the Fyocks hope to spend more time with their grandchildren.

"We'd love to see you and say a final farewell before softly closing the door on what has been a wonderful time in our professional lives," they said. "Once again, a very heartfelt thank you to everyone for your patronage over the years."
