Suspect in Gurnee homicide in police custody

Police in Gurnee have a suspect in custody in connection with a domestic-related homicide investigation, authorities said.

David M. Brocksom, 43, was taken into custody at about 7:45 p.m. Sunday, after a police officer performed a traffic stop as Brocksom was driving toward the police department's parking lot, officials said.

According to police, officers found a person dead about 9:25 a.m. Sunday while responding to a report of an injury at a home on the 3700 block of Pacific Avenue. The identity of the victim was not immediately disclosed.

"The initial investigation leads us to believe that this is a domestic-related incident," Deputy Police Chief Willie Meyer said. Police did not disclose the nature of the person's injuries.

A perimeter was established around the residence, and neighbors were requested to remain indoors while police searched the home and determined there were no other injured people or suspects at the scene.

Investigators had been searching for Brocksom, who last resided in the Kenosha area, and wanted to question him in connection with the death.

According to Lake County court records, Brocksom is embroiled in a long-running divorce case with Beata Brocksom that initially was filed in 2011. In 2013, records show, Beata Brocksom on two occasions sought orders of protection from David Brocksom.

Court records show David Brocksom has no criminal record in Lake County or in Wisconsin.

Neighbor Luis Nieves said Brocksom and his wife were living in the Pacific Avenue home when he moved into the area 10 years ago. He described David Brocksom as quiet, and was aware of his marital problems. Beata Brocksom, he said, asked him to write her a letter to help in an apparent custody dispute over the couple's two children.

"She requested that I write a recommendation letter for the judge, just to attest that she was a good neighbor, that she kept up with the yard," Nieves said. "She was really upset. She was crying when she asked for the letter."

Neighbors said the neighborhood was turned upside down Sunday morning, with police dogs everywhere and heavily armed officers searching the area.

"We had SWAT teams walking across my yard," Nieves said.
