Hersey stampedes to victory at Buffalo Grove
Hersey's girls swimming and diving team used a victory in the 200-yard medley relay and a win from sophomore Olivia Kusio in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:09.31) to earn a team victory in the Buffalo Grove Stampede on Saturday.
The Huskies finished with 413.5 points, well ahead of runner-up Jacobs/Hampshire at 319. Prospect (264) was third, followed by Conant (239.5), Cary-Grove (212) and St. Viator (198.5).
Kusio had a leg on Hersey's winning medley, joining Grace Reynolds, Claire Lutz and Jenny Lutz.
Conant's Sam Wooley won the 50 free (2:19.13), placed second in the 100 free (56.37) and anchored the winning 200 free relay. Lea Cejvan placed second in the 100 breast (1:10.39) and third in the 200 IM (2:19.13) for the Cougars.
St. Viator's Jackie Rose won the 100 free in 56.15 and had a runner-up finish in the 200 free (2:01.17), both season-best efforts. The Lions also got a third-place finish and lifetime best from Maggie McDermott in the 500 free (5:43.93).
Jacobs/Hampshire got a 1-2 finish in the 100 back from Izzy Bavaro (1:00.15) and Makaylin Monasterios (1:02.35) and also had the winning 400 free relay relay, with Sydney Erickson and Megan Herrera joining Bavaro and Monasterios.
Huntley's Kristen Czarnecki won the 200 IM (2:15.16), just ahead of Kusio (2:17.75).
Cary-Grove had a pair of individual champs, Karsen Seeger in the 500 free (5:40.57) and Ashlyn Baker in the 200 free (2:00.95).
