Vernon Hills race protest misguided

Let's understand why Desmond Clark and his wife are now marching on Vernon Hills High School. They are doing so because their son was suspended for violation of administrative code which resulted in him missing three football games and he was not able to participate in a lip sync contest at a school dance.

The Clarks' reaction resulted in misdemeanor charges being filed against both of them. So now it's all about race, really? Is missing football games and a lip sync contest worth the use of tactics used by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. to end segregation in the South?

Are these issues on par?

If they are this passionate about the issue of race relations, I would suggest they use their ability to draw media attention to highlight the situation in "Chiraq," the murder capital of Illinois, or issues about funding education, or police-community relations.

People do care about race relations in this country. Deep down we want to see people treated fairly, but I think this illustrates the type of situation where race is being used as a bludgeon to embarrass someone into action, but I feel embarrassed for the Clarks.

I think the frivolous use of marching tactics turn people off and reduce the effectiveness of marching when the tactics are used again for legitimate reasons.

Please stop reporting on this matter and tell us more about "Chiraq" and how we can help.
