Three suburban Peet's Coffee locations closing

Three suburban Peet's Coffee locations - in Wheaton, Arlington Heights and Long Grove - are closing Sunday.

Peet's issued a statement Thursday that said it was "not an easy decision" to close the stores, which are located at 390 W. Front St. in Wheaton; 1017 W. Dundee Road in Arlington Heights; and 4196 Route 83 in Long Grove.

"As an ongoing part of our retail business, it's important that we continually evaluate our current markets and make adjustments to provide our customers the best Peet's experience while meeting our business goals," the statement read. "After nearly a one-year assessment of our Illinois and Wisconsin stores, we've decided to focus on our top-performing locations. As a result, we are closing three stores in Illinois and four stores in Wisconsin on September 27."

Peet's representatives said the closings will affect about 100 employees. During the transition, employees whose jobs are being cut will be given a severance and benefits package based on tenure. Additionally, some employees in good standing will be eligible to request a transfer to another Peet's location.

Peet's will continue to operate 14 other stores in the Chicago area, which representatives said is a "key urban market" they are focusing on and expanding in, along with Boston and Washington D.C. Other suburban stores are located in Naperville, Downers Grove, Winnetka and Evanston.
