Artistry in Motion Dancers Selected to Perform with Professional Company

Des Plaines Park District's award-winning dance company, Artistry in Motion, recently had four of its elite dancers chosen to train and perform with Inaside Chicago Dance. Inaside is a professional dance company founded in 2003, and is a not-for-profit jazz dance company that builds off the foundations of the art form, while leading the way for contemporary jazz dance in the present and future.

Meghan Hanrahan, Mathew Skorupski, Natalie Sanchez, and Jordin Suwalski auditioned for Inaside's "Youth Training Program" on August 9th and were picked from dozens of dancers. These four dancers will perform with the professional company at their fall concert on October 16 at the Athenaeum Theatre in Chicago. After being selected, the Artistry dancers immediately began regular training and rehearsals with Inaside company member and choreographer, Sarah Ford, every Sunday evening. This training is in addition to their already busy schedule of classes with the Des Plaines School of Dance, private lessons and of course their regular school work.

"We are proud of all of our dancers but we are especially excited to have four of our dancers qualify to participate in this program," said Nancy Suwalski, Cultural Arts Supervisor for the Park District. "This is a wonderful opportunity," she added.

Artistry in Motion Dance Company has partnered with Inaside Chicago Dance on many occasions with dance intensives, master classes taught by Inaside company members and youth summits. The Youth Summit for the Arts is an opportunity for young artists to come together in a noncompetitive setting to showcase their talent, heart, and passion in all fine arts areas. The next youth summit that Artistry will participate in will be November 21 in Oswego, IL. "Our company improves every year, said Suwalski, "connecting our company to professional dancers and instructors will push us to the next level," she concluded.

The Park District's School of Dance offers nearly 40 different dance classes including Pre-ballet, Ballet, Pointe, Tap, Jazz, Hip Hop, Contemporary, and more. The School of Dance will be accepting registrations for classes through the week of October 5, 2015. For more information visit DPParks.org or call 847-391-5711
