Anderson Animal Shelter offers free cat, kitten adoptions

Anderson Animal Shelter, 1000 S. LaFox St. (Route 31) in South Elgin, will hold a "FALL in Love" adoption event Wednesday, Sept. 30. Beginning at 6 p.m., adoption fees will be waived for the first 25 cats or kittens adopted.

Anderson has received more than 600 homeless cats and kittens so far this year and the shelter is bursting at the seams.

"We have cats and kittens of all ages, colors and personalities," said Lesya Kercheval, the shelter's adoptions manager. "This is a particularly tough time of year to find homes for these guys, even though they're all adorable and highly adoptable."

"They've been coming in all year long, with kittens starting in the early spring, so by the time fall rolls around, adoptions have started to decline, but the flow of incoming homeless cats and kittens hasn't slowed," she continued. "Because we're a no-kill shelter, we need to find forever homes for the ones we have, before we can help more."

Adoptions will occur on a first-come, first-served basis and regular adoption policies will apply. The shelter will have extended hours during the event, remaining open until 8 p.m. that evening.
