Library Announces New Student Advisory Trustees

Students from Schaumburg and Hoffman Estates are the new Student Advisory Trustees (SATs) to the Schaumburg Township District Library (STDL) Board of Trustees. Conant High School student Sruthi Gurudev is remaining on the board for a second term, while Schaumburg High School student Jessica D'Souza is new to the SAT position.

Gurudev said she looks forward to a second term on the library board, contributing her voice to the discussions, and upholding the board's goals for positive change in the community. "Being an SAT last year was such an honor," she said. "I've been able to introduce new people to the library programs, so that is definitely something I will do more often." In addition to serving as an SAT, Gurudev is a member of Conant's speech team and serves as the Opinions Editor of the school newspaper. She is the recipient of a Scholastic Gold Medal in writing, a member of the Business Professionals of America, and is a classical dancer, a volunteer for Feed My Starving Children and a member of the library's Teen Corps.

D'Souza said she is happy about her new position as an SAT. "As a teenager, I believe I have a fresh perspective that I am excited to contribute to the board," she said. "I have an in-depth perspective of how young adults, teens and children utilize library facilities. Furthermore, in everything I do, I strive to do it with passion and positivity, which I believe are invaluable keys to problem solving." In addition to serving as an SAT, Gurudev volunteers at Friendship Village, is part of the St. Hubert's Youth Ministry Leadership Team, and is a volunteer summer camp counselor. She is also involved with the speech, debate and math teams at school.

"We are delighted to have these intelligent, enthusiastic, community-minded students on the board," said STDL Executive Director Stephanie Sarnoff."

STDL Board of Trustees meetings are open to the public and take place at 7 p.m. on the third Monday of each month.
