Girls volleyball: West Aurora, Elgin earn victories
Jordyn Poppen and Gillian Jones each had 10 kills to lead the West Aurora girls volleyball team to a 25-16, 28-30, 25-19 Upstate Eight Conference Valley Division win over West Chicago Tuesday night.
Poppen added 3 aces, 3 assists and 2 digs for the Blackhawks (14-4) while Jones had 3 aces, 4 assists and 6 digs. Kayla Battle (5 kills, 2 blocks), Ali Greenwood (4 assists, 6 digs), Kelly Townsend (23 assists) and Natalie Jones (22 assists) also contributed.
Elgin d. Streamwood: Karen Aguirre had 14 digs, Emily Huprich 3 aces, 11 digs and 11 assists and Emma Sirridge 4 digs and 3 kills to lead the Maroons to a 25-21, 25-19 Upstate Eight River win. Elena Silva added 7 digs and 2 kills for Elgin (9-12, 1-1) and Alisha Panthier had 5 kills and 3 blocks. Ashley Rothenberg (5 kills, 3 blocks), Jenejha Williams (5 kills, 6 blocks) and Jessica Daley (18 digs) led Streamwood (0-11, 0-3).
CL South d. Huntley: Jordan Proszenyak had 6 kills and 5 digs and Kendall Kilberger 10 kills and 6 digs to lead the Gators (7-7, 3-2) to a 25-19, 25-20 Fox Valley Conference Valley Division win. Aurora Nero (5 digs, 3 aces and Emily Slimko (18 assists) also contributed. Erin Erb had 7 kills and Sarah Zayas 11 digs for Huntley (7-6, 1-3). Jade Hoffmann added 6 kills for the Red Raiders and Brea Jareb had 9 digs.
St. Charles North d. Larkin: Daley Krage (6 kills), Claire Anderson (5 kills) and freshman Gigi Crescenzo (4 kills) led the North Stars (16-2) to a 25-10, 25-18 Upstate Eight River win.
Bartlett d. East Aurora: Megan Regan and Kelly Harris each had 8 kills, while Jenna Kummerer and Meldoie Figueora each served 5 aces for Bartlett (9-8-1, 1-2) in a 25-12, 25-7 UEC Valley win. Almira Khan had 17 assists for the Hawks.
Wheaton North d. Batavia: Katelynn Fegan had 9 digs, Jenna Garrett 12 assists and 4 digs and Roxy Vermaas and Sydney Cavanaugh each added 4 kills for Batavia (6-12) in a 25-6, 25-20 nonconference loss.
Jacobs d. McHenry: Katie Mahoney had 6 kills and Bridget Wallenberger added 5 as the Golden Eagles won 25-17, 25-7 in the FVC Valley. Monet Charron had 6 digs for the winners.
Glenbard East d. South Elgin: Rachel Fiore had 5 kills and 5 digs and Julia Saldivar added 6 digs for South Elgin in a 25-16, 25-10 UEC Valley loss.
Burlington Central d. Johnsburg: Lexi VanHiel (7 kills, 6 digs), Megan Lomas (6 kills), Lexi DeWaard (21 assists), Lauren Beaudin (3 aces), Rachel Gaydos (7 digs, 2 aces), Kendall Boron (5 kills) and Summer Smith (6 kills) led the Rockets (13-3, 5-0) to a 25-22, 25-13 Big Northern East win.
