Boys soccer: Jacobs wins Indian Cup tournament
The Jacobs boys soccer team bounced back from a weather-shortened 1-0 loss to West Aurora on Friday night to come back Saturday and go 3-0 to win the Indian Cup tournament at Hononegah.
The Golden Eagles defeated United Township 4-0, Dundee-Crown 1-0 and Springfield 2-1 to win the championship and run their record to 10-2 for the season.
Noah Melick scored twice in the win over UT, while Colin Walsh and Konrad Wasilewski each added a goal and Eduardo Guimaray made 3 saves in goal for the shutout. Against D-C, Walsh scored the game's only goal and Ethan Pickering stopped 3 Chargers shots in the net. Melick scored both goals for the Eagles against Springfield and Guimaray turned away 6 shots to preserve the win.
D-C at Hononegah: After tying with United Township 0-0 on Friday, the Chargers (8-2-3) played to a 2-2 draw with West Aurora on Saturday before losing to Jacobs. Julian Ajroja and Freddy Martinez scored D-C's goals against West Aurora while Avery Lovaglia (1 save) and Luis Cruz (2 saves) shared time in goal.
Huntley 2, Metea Valley 1: Travis Walsh and Jason Zobott scored goals and Andrew Fulcer made 4 saves in the net for Huntley (8-2-1) in its PepsiCo Showdown win.
Lake Zurich 1, Burlington Central 0: Ryan Fitzgerald had 7 saves in goal for the Rockets (4-5-1) in a PepsiCo Showdown loss.
