McDonald's might replace Hoffman Estates computer store

Hoffman Estates trustees Monday will consider approval of a new McDonald's to replace the long vacant Myoda Computer Center building at 1070 N. Roselle Road.

The village is already planning to install a traffic signal this fall at the shopping center entrance on Roselle Road just south of where the McDonald's would be, slightly north of a KFC and Higgins Road.

If the McDonald's plan is approved, Hoffman Estates could soon go from having one of the oldest McDonald's restaurants in the region to having two of the newest.

A new McDonald's is already being built just west of the old one at Barrington Square Town Center on Higgins Road east of Barrington Road. The old McDonald's will be razed as soon as the new one is completed.

The two-story Myoda building on Roselle Road was originally a computer store but made some space available for other tenants as well before the lender foreclosed on the property in 2010, said Hoffman Estates' Director of Planning, Building & Code Enforcement Peter Gugliotta.

The land is currently owned by BBCN Bank, which plans to sell it to a broker who will then lease it to McDonald's for a new 4,338-square-foot restaurant featuring dual drive-through lanes.

As it's already so late in the year, work on the new McDonald's likely won't start in earnest until next construction season, Gugliotta said.

But once it does begin, the restaurant probably can be built within four to six months, he added.
