Oakton art exhibition celebrates feminism

A provocative exhibition that illustrates and celebrates feminism's past, present and future opens Thursday, Oct. 1, at Oakton Community College's Koehnline Museum of Art, 1600 E. Golf Road, Des Plaines.

Enjoy a free gala reception with the artists on opening night from 5 to 8 p.m. Feminism Across the Generations runs through Friday, Oct. 23.

This year's collaboration between the Women's and Gender Studies program and the Koehnline Museum of Art will feature more than 70 works by women artists from around the globe that explore how feminists can reach across divisions of time and place.

"Our 'Generations' theme has inspired pieces that are both thought-provoking and moving," said Kathleen Carot, Women's and Gender Studies coordinator. "This is a show that will have wide appeal to both first-time attendees and seasoned art lovers."

The museum is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

The exhibition is funded, in part, by a grant from the Oakton Educational Foundation.
