Burlington Central, Harvard tied - will resume Saturday

After waiting through three delays due to lightning, Harvard and Burlington Central finally got to play for just over three quarters, yet still remained even when the game was suspended again with the score tied 14-14 with 9:51 left in the game.

The game will be resumed at 6 p.m. Saturday.

After both teams exchanged punts throughout the first quarter, the Hornets scored the lone touchdown in the first half with 8:11 left in the second quarter. Facing third-and-6 from the Rockets' 33-yard line, Harvard quarterback Todd Lehman hit Tyler Perkins on a sideline seam route that Perkins took the distance.

Although both teams struggled to get any offensive momentum going in the first half, the second half was quite a story of contrast.

Harvard recovered an onside kick to start the second half and moved down to the Rockets' 27-yard line on a 13-yard pass from Lehman to Hunter Freres. But Lehman's next pass was intercepted by Adam Mengel to give the ball back to the Rockets on their own 21-yard line.

The Rockets' celebration was short-lived however, because Freres intercepted Cameron Kaldenberger's first pass of the second half and promptly returned it 21-yards to give the Hornets a 14-0 lead.

The Hornets squibbed the ensuing kickoff, which landed in the hands of Jason Berango on his 20-yard line. The senior speedster exploded full steam up the middle for the first 15 yards, and then turned on the jets down the left sideline for an 80-yard touchdown return to cut the Hornets' lead in half.

Harvard fell victim to the big play by the Rockets' defense late in the third quarter. The Hornets had the ball first-and-goal on the Rockets' 3-yard line when the ball was snapped over Lehman's head. Senior Bradley Sorenson scooped up the loose ball and returned in 97 yards to tie the game 14-14.
