Teen shot, killed in Aurora

Aurora police are investigating the early morning shooting death of a 16-year-old Aurora boy.

Police were called at 2:30 a.m. today about a gunshot victim lying in a driveway in the first block of North State Street.

Officers immediately found Daniel J. Garcia of the 100 block of South State Street, the victim of more than one gunshot wound.

Garcia was found in his cousins' driveway, one of whom was the person who made the 911 call. However, Garcia's identity was not known to the cousin at the time police were called.

Police say they do not know when Garcia may have been shot because they did not receive any calls for gunfire in that area. He was last seen alive leaving his home about 12:30 a.m.

Police said a neighborhood canvass revealed that shots were heard in the neighborhood where Garcia was found deceased approximately the same time he left his home, but police were never called. There are no suspect descriptions and no one is in custody. Garcia was pronounced dead on the scene at 2:43 a.m.

Police do not have a definite motive at this time but have not ruled out possible street gang motivation.

Anyone with information is asked to call Aurora police at (630) 256-5500 or Aurora Area Crime Stoppers at (630) 892-1000. Callers to Crime Stoppers are anonymous and qualify for a cash reward of up to $5,000 for information that leads to any arrests.

An autopsy on Garcia is pending at the Kane County Coroner's Office.
