In emergency, schools were prepared

We mourn the loss of a dedicated police officer, Lt. Gliniewicz. He gave his life to protect those of us in the community of Fox Lake. There are no words to adequately express the sorrow for his family. He is a hero.

Schools practice for events such as this tragedy. Big Hollow School, K-8, Ingelside, I am sure did, and on the day of his death they had to implement that plan. The staff is to be commended for their actions.

I drove the clogged neighboring streets, agonized where to safely park, gave a name to staff at the door. It was relayed to her classroom, and I waited anxiously. She appeared, released to me. My granddaughter was safe.

Thank you to Big Hollow teachers and staff. Educators are called upon to do so much more than teach our children.
