Fall Fest returning to Des Plaines this weekend

Des Plaines Fall Fest returns this weekend for a three-day run Lake Park on Lee Street between Howard and Touhy avenues. The festival features all the typical attractions and has free admission, free entertainment and free parking. All the details are at fallfestdesplaines.com/home.htm.

The festival runs from 6 to 11 p.m. Friday, noon to 11 p.m. Saturday and noon to 7 p.m. Sunday. The carnival features unlimited rides for $20 from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. The big name bands include Spoken Four and ARRA on Friday night, Generation and Modern Day Romeos on Saturday night and 7th heaven Sunday evening.

The KidZone! from noon to 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday features pony rides, face painting, arts and crafts tent, photo area and interactive playground.

Saturday KidZone! entertainment includes Des Plaines Fire Department Aerial Rescue Demonstration at 1 p.m., JG Reptile Show at 2 p.m., Des Plaines Police Department K-9 Demonstration at 4 p.m., Illinois Shotokan Karate Demonstration at 4 p.m., Mary Macaroni at 5 p.m., Bling Fling at 6 p.m., and a special appearance by Barefoot Hawaiian at 6 p.m.

Sunday KidZone! Entertainment includes Craft Crazies! at 1 p.m., Dinosaur Encounter at 2 p.m., Zumba! with Lisa Carbello at 3 p.m. Keith Cobb Magician at 4 p.m., and Bubble Magic at 5 p.m.

An Open Air Market will be in operation from 12 to 8 p.m. Saturday and 12 to 7 p.m. with vendors selling gift items, clothing, accessories, jewelry, arts, crafts and household items.

Other activities at the festival include a live animal show, car show, fishing derby, bags tournaments and country fair tent.

The festival is a joint venture of the Des Plaines Chamber of Commerce, Des Plaines History Center and Des Plaines Park District, with Rivers Casino as the primary sponsor. Fall Fest typically attracted about 8,000 people from the Northwest suburbs.
