Rolling Meadows third at Aurora Christian's tournament

Although it did not lose a match, Rolling Meadows' girls volleyball team had to settle for third place at the Aurora Christian Invite on Saturday.

The Mustangs went 3-0-1, with their tie against Homewood-Flossmoor (RM won 27-25 and lost 25-18).

The Mustangs defeated the host school in the third-place match 25-10, 25-20.

"We missed playing for the championship against Homewood-Flossmoor by 3 points (via the tiebreaker)," said Meadows coach Joe Disilvio, whose team is off to a 9-4 start. "It was a great weekend as we gave our time Friday night to the 'Feed My Starving Children' organization in Aurora and packed enough meals to feed 56 kids for a year."

The Mustangs also donated $150 from their girls volleyball program.

Maddie Sellergren (18 kills, 9 aces), Jenny Srnak (17 kills) and Hannah Mickey (10 kills, 7 aces) paced the Meadows on attack in their four matches.

Megan King (33 assists) and Megan Mich (29 assists) ran the attack while Gabrielle Paige and Mickey led the club with 5 blocks apiece.

Sellergren and King each had a team-high 14 digs followed by King (14), Caroline Barczak (9), Mickey (8), Madeline Rebsamen (7), Paige Connor (7), Mich (6), Srnak (4) and Meghan Slowik (3).

Leyden Invite: Leyden won all five of its matches at its own invite to claim first place in the six-team event.

The Eagles were followed by Willowbrook, Chicago Christian, Westmont, Conant and Lane Tech.

Leyden won all its in two sets except for a 9-25, 25-15, 15-6 triumph over Lane Tech.

Senior outside hitter Emily Steininger (38 kills) and junior setter Autumn McGee (16 kills, 69 assists, 10 aces) helped pave the way.

Conant (1-4) earned its win over Lane tech 25-10, 25-22

Prairie Ridge Invite: Barrington (4-10) dropped its five matches in an invite that featured some of the top teams in the state.

Gabby Morris (20 kills), Ana Zawisza (62 assists), Olivia Hagan (39 digs) and Megan Talbot (15 kills, 8 blocks) were among the statistical leaders for the Fillies.
