Chicago Bears top 3 wide receivers questionable for Sunday's game

The Bears' top three wide receivers are all questionable for Sunday's game after going through three consecutive days of limited practices.

Alshon Jeffery (calf), Eddie Royal (hip) and Marquess Wilson (hamstring) are all 50-50 for the Packers.

Because of the uncertainty of the top three, the Bears' next three wide receivers - Josh Bellamy, Cam Meredith and Marc Mariani - could all play important roles vs. the Packers. The injuries to the starters allowed the backups to play more snaps with quarterback Jay Cutler in training camp and throughout the preseason than they normally would.

"We got a lot of work at it through the preseason, so there ought to be some chemistry built," coach John Fox said. "I'm staying optimistic about the availability of all our guys. We'll wait and see, and we'll have to adjust. That's what we do."

Offensive tackle Jermon Bushrod (back), quarterback Jimmy Clausen (concussion) and nose tackle Eddie Goldman (concussion) are all probable (75 percent chance they'll play). Bushrod did not practice Friday, while Clausen and Goldman were full participants. Backup linebacker Jon Bostic (ankle) is questionable.

Linebacker Sam Acho (ill) and Tracy Porter (hamstring) are out after not practicing all week.

For the Packers, wide receiver Randall Cobb (shoulder) is probable, while linebacker Sam Barrington (ankle) and safety Morgan Burnett (calf) are questionable.

Change is good:

After leading the league with 24 giveaways last year, Jay Cutler did not turn the ball over in the preseason, which counts for little in Sunday's opener.

But Adam Gase, Cutler's fifth offensive coordinator in seven years with the Bears, says there were positive signs in the preseason.

The most important?

"His efficiency of running the offense," Gase said. "I felt like he was comfortable. I felt like he did a great job communicating. He ran what we were doing, whether we were in the huddle, no huddle, whatever we were doing, up tempo, he never seemed to be bothered by anything.

"There were a lot of guys that weren't on the same page with him sometimes, because he's ahead of everybody else. That's going to happen at the quarterback spot. We've just got to see how fast everybody gets caught up to him and just keep him growing as a quarterback." Packers coach Mike McCarthy, who has watched Cutler perform under each of the previous four coordinators, says he's already seen a change in him.

"In my opinion, just watching tape from last year and watching Jay perform in the preseason, there's definitely some change in the pre-snap disciplines and mannerisms," McCarthy said. "He looks like he's comfortable in what Adam's having him do. I think it's a good fit."

Playing with heart: Eleven-year veteran safety Antrel Rolle says Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers is one of the best he's ever faced, but he's not shrinking from the confrontation.

"This is one of the toughest assignments we're going to get," Rolle said. "But you have to answer the bell, and that's what we plan on doing. We don't go into any game hoping and wishing to do good. We go into the game expecting to do good."

Told that Rodgers would quickly point out any Bears weaknesses, Rolle replied: "Well, we'll point out his, too. Last time I checked, our heart don't pump Kool-Aid.

"We respect every player. At the same time, we come out there to play ball, and that's going to be our mentality."

Never forget:

Coach John Fox wore an "NYPD" cap during Friday's practice in commemoration of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks

"I was in New York during that," said Fox, who was the Giants' defensive coordinator. "It's been kind of embedded in me ever since. I lost some close friends, and it holds a special place every September 11."

Hot sales:

According to Dick's Sporting Goods, Matt Forte's No. 22 Bears jersey is their best seller - in Wisconsin.

"There must be a lot of Bears fans in Wisconsin," Forte said. "Either that or they're buying it to burn it."
