Ridgewood frustrates Fenton

Ridgewood had everything going its way in a 36-6 win over host Fenton in Bensenville on Friday.

Alex Rice scored 3 touchdowns and ran for 128 yards on 17 carries, and quarterback Chris Jacobsen threw for 3 touchdowns for the Rebels (2-1).

The Bison (1-2) lost big in their opener before bouncing back to win their second game. This third week of the season, the Bison took a big step back.

Fenton coach Mark Kos is aware of the ups and downs that frequently show up with young teams like his.

"They have to learn how to win, and they have to learn to be consistent," said Kos. "Unfortunately, we challenged the young men all week long after last week's loss to put football as a priority and it wasn't there. Unless we figure out how to clean out our house things won't get better for us as a program.

"We have to do that as coaches, and the players have to look in the mirror and hold each other accountable."

The Bison were plagued by broken plays, missed tackles and 3 sacks. The team gained a total of 45 offensive yards in the first half, while the Rebels had 254 yards.

"Our defense came ready to play and our offense was clicking on all cylinders," said Rebels coach Chris Zack. "Our passing game was there. We were running the ball pretty well. We came ready to play."

The Rebels opened the scoring on its first possession with an 82-yard drive that included a 60-yard reception by Mike Ortiz from Jacobsen. Rice capped the drive with a 20-yard run for a touchdown.

Rice scored his second touchdown of the game with 3-yard run and Jacobsen connected with Marco Vitale for a 36-yard pass play to give the Rebels a 20-0 lead at the half.

"I saw my blocks and they were great blocks," said Vitale (6 receptions for 134 yards and two touchdowns). "I give all the credit to the team. I had to make some moves but I got in.

The Rebels continued to score in the second half. Once again on its first possession, Rice took off for a 55-yard run to score his third touchdown of the game. Vitale and Jake Karkoska scored on passes from Jacobsen for 47 and 4 yards, respectively.

The Bison did get on the scoreboard late in the game on a 22-yard run by Ivan Rodriguez.

"(Ridgewood) did nothing we haven't seen," said Bison quarterback Corey Hausen. "It's not fun to lose like that."
