Carpentersville ceremony honors 9/11 victims, first responders

The Carpentersville Fire Department held a remembrance ceremony Friday to honor the victims of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks in New York and Washington, D.C., and the first responders who sacrificed their lives.

"Everybody can take a moment or two to reflect on what happened so we don't forget," Fire Chief John Skillman said. The flag ceremony was held at Fire Station No. 91 at 213 Spring St., in front of the fire department's Sept. 11 memorial, which includes a piece of steel from the World Trade Center, that was built about four years ago.

Students from Parkview Elementary School participated in the ceremony, as well as trumpet players from the Dundee-Crown High School marching band.

Carpentersville police officers and East and West Dundee firefighters were also in attendance.
