Elgin Symphony League to welcome EYSO director at Sept. 17 meeting

(Elgin, Il) --- The Elgin Symphony League will host its first meeting of the 2015-16 concert season on Thursday, Sept. 17, at the Evangelical Covenant Church, 1565 Larkin Ave., Elgin.

It will begin with a luncheon at noon and followed by a presentation by guest speaker Kathy Matthews, executive director of the Elgin Youth Symphony Orchestra.

Jeanne Hebeisen, ESL board member, notes that the Elgin Symphony League was responsible for helping to found the youth orchestra, and invites anyone interested in music to "come and learn how far it has come" since it began in 1976.

It is now one of the oldest and largest youth orchestra programs in northwest Illinois, composed of three full orchestras, two string orchestras, a brass choir and a large Chamber Music Institute.

The luncheon will be catered by In the Neighborhood Deli; cost is $15. Anyone who is a prospective member of the league will be a guest at her/his first meeting. Reservations can be made by calling Hebeisen at (847) 741-6264.

Established in 1971 to support the Elgin Symphony Orchestra, the Elgin Symphony League has become a prominent ambassador to our community with members contributing thousands of hours of time and talent to promote and support this award-winning orchestra. Membership is open to anyone who loves music!

For information, call Diane Campbell, ESL chair, at (630) 329-7507.
