Palatine extends momentum with victory over Fremd

Coming off its solid third-place finish in the Peggy Scholten Volleyball Classic on Saturday, Palatine's girls volleyball team won its crosstown rivalry match on Wednesday by defeating host Fremd 25-17, 26-24 in the Mid-Suburban West opener.

Junior Claire Chaplinsky and Haley Holz each put down 8 kills while Heather Holz added 7 to lift the Pirates' attack which was set by Sydney Christiansen (26 assists).

Coach Dan Gavin's Pirates improved to 6-2 while Fremd stands at 6-3.

Leading the Vikings' attack were Ysabel lee (8 kills) and Becca Stapleton (3).

Rebecca Uhrich, Karolina Sas and Lee each had an ace for the Vikes while Natalie Freund (6 assists) and Holly Straup (5 assists) set the offense.

Barrington d. Hoffman: Visiting Barrington won the MSL West opener 25-13, 25-20 to improve to 4-5 overall.

The Hawks were led by Hanna Saurbier's 2 kills.

Leyden d. Streamwood: Visiting Leyden won the nonconference match 25-19, 25-17 as the Eagles' Emily Steininger (10 kills) and Autumn McGee (5 kills, 17 assists, 2 aces) helped lead the way.
