Joliet man charged in robbery at same Aurora party where man was killed

A 21-year-old Joliet man has been charged with armed robbery in connection with the same Sept. 5 party that ended in the shooting death of a Plainfield man.

Police say Marcus L. Hall, of the 1300 block of Fuller Avenue, used a handgun to rob two 20-year-old men from Normal who were attending the party around 12:35 a.m.

The robbery occurred outside the rental hall where the party was being held on the 600 block of North Lake Street. Roughly $3,300 in jewelry, cash and other items were allegedly taken from the men. They were not injured.

Shortly after the robbery, Hall was one of several men who showed up at the party and proceeded to cause trouble for the attendees, police said. Shortly after the robbery, a disturbance occurred inside the hall that caused the attendees to run out of the building toward Illinois Avenue and across Lake Street.

Police said a fight then ensued on the east side of Lake Street and at least one shot was fired, striking Derrick Page, 23, of Plainfield in the head. Page died the next day as a result of the gunshot wound.

Hall was arrested during a traffic stop about 10 minutes after the shooting, in the area of River Street and West Park Avenue. At this time, police do not believe he played a role in the homicide.

He is being held in the Kane County Correctional Center in St. Charles. If convicted, he faces between six and 30 years in prison.

Aurora police continue to ask anyone with information about the shooting to call investigators at (630) 256-5500 or Aurora Area Crime Stoppers at (630) 892-1000. Callers to Crime Stoppers are anonymous and qualify for a cash reward of up to $5,000 for information that leads to any arrests.
