Music notes: Brandon Flowers hits Chicago's Riv

<h3 class="briefHead">Mr. Brightside himself</h3>

It's the early 2000s. The boy bands are tired. The rap-rockers have long since worn out their welcome. The radio is starved for something new. In come The Killers, crashing onto the scene at the crest of a refreshing new wave revival, somehow blending Depeche Mode and Morrisey, '80s synth pop and the beginnings of the indie rock fascination in a way that was not only craveable but integral. Taking cues from forerunners of the movement and making them radio accessible was Brandon Flowers, The Killers' glam-rocking lead singer. Propped up by the band's numerous hits, Flowers debuted as a solo artist in 2010 with the release of "Flamingos," the first of two in his discography so far. He brings his collection to Chicago's Riviera Theatre Friday with Mexico City-based rock band Rey Pila. 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 11, at the Riviera Theatre, 4746 N. Racine Ave., Chicago. $35. (773) 275-6800 or jamusa.com/riviera-theatre.
