Three charged with mob action after wedding confrontation near Zion

Three men are facing charges of mob action, among other crimes, after police were called to a confrontation at a wedding near Zion early Monday morning, the Lake County sheriff's office said.

About 2:40 a.m., deputies were called to the scene on the 100 block of Lakefront Drive and found several people had been involved in a fight during which handguns were displayed, the sheriff's office said in a news release.

Deputies found Oscar Cervantes, 28, of the 100 block of North St. James Street in Waukegan, brandished a handgun and pointed it at a 23-year-old man, according to the release.

Then, James Bakken, 33, of the 11300 block West Carnahan Avenue in Beach Park, also produced a handgun and used it to strike the victim in the face, according to the sheriff's office.

The sheriff's office said Matthew Bowen, 25, of the 11200 block of West Leland Avenue in Beach Park, also was involved in the confrontation.

Bowen and the victim were both guests at the wedding, but Bakken and Cervantes were not, Covelli said.

The three suspects attempted to flee, but sheriff's deputies caught them and found two loaded .380 handguns in their vehicle, according to the release.

Bakken has been charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, unlawful use of weapon by a felon and mob action.

Bowen faces charges of assault, unlawful possession of cannabis, disorderly conduct and mob action, and Cervantes is being charged with mob action and aggravated assault.

All three are being held at the Lake County jail pending Tuesday bond hearings.
