Lake County Extension office to offer Master Gardener program

Training for the master gardener program at the University of Illinois Extension's Lake County office in Grayslake is set for 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Fridays from mid-January through April. The master gardener program usually has more applicants than spaces in the class. Anyone interested in being considered must return an application by Sept. 15. All applicants will be interviewed in late September and October. Cost is $295. Master gardeners receive training in home horticulture during the winter and volunteer 60 hours of time April through December to answer calls from homeowners with gardening questions, staffing information booths and other duties. The Grayslake office is at 100 S. Route 45. For information, contact Kim Isaacson, horticulture program coordinator, at (847) 223-8627 or kim.isaac@illinois.edu.
