Open house on Tompkins Park playground renovation

Bloomingdale Park District residents can review plans and help select activity panels for a planned replacement of the playground structures at Tompkins Park, 151 Edgewater Drive in Bloomingdale.

The open house is from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 10, in the Community Room of the Johnston Recreation Center, 172 S. Circle Ave. Plans for the new play structures will be on display and refreshments will be served.

Parents are encouraged to bring children and come at any time during the open house. No formal presentation will be given.

The park is scheduled to receive a replacement, farm-themed playground in 2016. Bloomingdale's origins are of an agricultural nature, and this project celebrates its past.

In collaboration with the Bloomingdale Historical Society, the renovation also is to include some interpretive signs near the playground.

The replacement is scheduled to begin in early spring with a targeted date of completion next summer. The replacement is part of the park district's capital asset replacement plan.
