Share your family's story at the Arlington Heights library

The Arlington Heights Memorial Library is asking residents to share stories about their family background and how they came to Arlington Heights.

The project, Our Stories: An Exhibition of Arlington Heights Heritage, is part of the ongoing One Book, One Arlington program. The book this year is "The Book of Unknown Americans," a novel that gives a glimpse into the stories of various families who have immigrated to America.

Library officials hope the collection will help celebrate the diverse nature of the community and be a place for people to get to know their neighbors through photographs, personal essays and audio stories.

People can submit their stories to the library website at http://www.ahml.info/onebook/share or come to a drop-in recording session to tell their story orally. Recording sessions will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sept. 14 and 21, and from 2 to 4 p.m. Sept. 16 and 23.

The exhibit of shared stories will be on display Sept. 21 to Nov. 15 at the Arlington Heights Memorial Library, 500 N. Dunton Ave.
