You'll be able to fight the Joker, Lex Luthor on new Great America ride

Six Flags Great America in Gurnee plans to debut a 4-D interactive ride with a superhero theme next year.

In partnership with Warner Bros. Consumer Products and DC Entertainment, the 4-D ride will be called “Justice League: Battle for Metropolis.” Attractions bearing that same name debuted this year at Six Flags parks in St. Louis and Arlington, Texas.

Riders will become members of the Justice League Reserve Team and join Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman and Green Lantern in a battle against Lex Luthor, the Joker and their henchmen. Sitting in six-passenger vehicles, riders will have to outsmart Luthor and the Joker while saving the city of Metropolis.

Additional details are to be announced at a news conference today.

“Introducing an attraction that combines this level of technology and the iconic DC Comics characters will bring an unmatched, interactive experience to our guests in 2016,” Great America President Hank Salemi said in a statement announcing the new ride. “The addition of Justice League: Battle for Metropolis is another example of our park's commitment to delivering new and innovative thrills every year.”

Along with what is being promoted as one of the first virtual loops giving riders a sense of going head over heels, the latest Great America offering will be in a 22,000-square-foot Hall of Justice. High-definition, 3-D animation is expected to fully immerse riders in Metropolis.

Other ride highlights include state-of-the-art gaming elements, lifelike animatronic characters, and wind, mist and fog effects.

Last year, Great America made a splash by introducing Goliath as the fastest, tallest and steepest wooden roller coaster in the world.
