Metropolis school in Arlington Heights gets new digital piano lab

A new digital piano lab is up and running as the Metropolis School of the Performing Arts in Arlington Heights starts its fall semester.

Nine Yamaha digital pianos were bought through donations made during the Metropolis 15th Anniversary Gala in April, according to a news release.

The digital pianos are the latest models featuring the newest networking capabilities that allow students to link with their teachers and other students, or to practice independently while still in a group setting. Digital pianos simulate a real piano with a full-size keyboard, three pedals and weighted keys.

Along with networking, digital pianos are equipped with recording, transposing and metronome capabilities. Metropolis is now the only private music school in the area with this kind of technology, according to the school.
