Presence Health, Physicians to partner

Presence Health and Physicians Immediate Care said Tuesday they will form a joint venture to operate urgent care and occupational medicine facilities around Chicago and the suburban area.

The organizations said the partnership helps them better manage patient care and creates more options for patients at a lower cost than emergency rooms.

The joint venture includes clinics in Aurora and Elgin, the organizations said.

The joint venture will manage 10 immediate care/occupational clinics and the organizations will work together to develop additional sites, a news release said. The clinics are open seven days a week and will have X-ray capability, lab testing and six to eight exam rooms, including a pediatric room and trauma room, for treating non-life-threatening injuries and illnesses.

"This strategic partnership will provide patients with greater access to convenient, affordable, quality care. Most patients who visit immediate care centers will have much shorter wait times and lower out-of-pocket costs than if they go to an emergency department," President and CEO of Presence Medical Group Howard Drenth said in a release.

Under the agreement, Physicians Immediate Care will handle day-to-day management of the clinics.

"We are excited to be partnering with one of the leading health systems in Illinois that shares our vision of providing expanded access to quality, affordable care and coordinating that care for the benefit of our patients," Physicians Immediate Care CEO Stan Blaylock said in a release.

Presence Medical Group is part of Presence Health, the largest Catholic health system based in Illinois. It has more than 150 care facilities and 12 hospitals, including Presence Holy Family Medical Center in Des Plaines, Presence Mercy Medical Center in Aurora and Presence Saint Joseph Hospital in Elgin.

Physicians Immediate Care, also known as Physicians Urgent Care, has 33 locations in three Midwest states.
