Sullivan announces run for Kane Co. board

Doug Sullivan, president of the Batavia Public Library District board, announced Sunday he will seek the Republican nomination for Kane County Board's District 10 seat.

In a news release announcing his candidacy, Sullivan criticized the seat's current holder, board member Susan Starrett, for missing board meetings.

"The residents of the 10th district deserve a county board member who is an engaged, active participant in the process," said Sullivan, who's been on the library board since 2005 and also serves on the city of Batavia's Historic Preservation Commission.

According to his statement, Sullivan has worked for Pace Suburban Bus since 1999. He currently manages the agency's marketing department and advocates for Pace's interests to the federal government and Illinois' congressional delegation, he said.

Sullivan describes himself as "a nearly lifelong resident of Batavia" and graduate of Batavia High School. He has a master's degree in public administration from the University of Illinois at Chicago and a bachelor's degree in public policy studies from Vanderbilt University, he said. The Republican primary will take place March 15, 2016. District 10 encompasses portions of Batavia and North Aurora.
