Campaign too important for field of deadbeats

I was relieved to read the Aug. 25 column by Catherine Rampell, "The 2016 field is full of deadbeats." It restored my confidence in the press that this presidential campaign of frauds was not going by unnoticed.

P.T. Barnum believed "a sucker is born every minute." The polls seem to confirm this, with voters following certain candidates in droves. It's a sad commentary that today's voters do not take the time to research their comments available from many sources and only absorb sound bites that are meant to deceive them.

The first thing that should come to mind is, "Would I want this person to represent our country when negotiating with leaders of other countries?"

An example is Donald Trump. He hits all the hot-button items his uninformed followers love to cheer. Have you ever noticed he offers no solutions except building a wall on our Mexico border, because "He knows how to build walls" and making Mexico pay for it. (More cheers).

Others also have simplistic solutions for domestic and world problems, and we are supposed to believe them. They make for exciting sound bites but are not part of reality.

I keep wondering what the world thinks of this political circus and their current opinion of our country. This entire fiasco would make an interesting movie, probably a comedy.

The only part of Rampell's column I do not agree with is in her closing comment, "So maybe this crop of candidates is just what we deserve ..."

No, it isn't. We are a greater country than these political candidates and the outcome of this presidential election is too serious to leave to deadbeats or millionaire contributors.
