Boomers win series at Joliet

JOLIET, Ill. - The Schaumburg Boomers scored in five different innings to tally a 6-1 road win over the Joliet Slammers and capture the series on Thursday.

Eddie Cody twirled 6 innings on the hill to earn his team-best ninth victory, allowing just 1 run on 4 hits. Schaumburg grabbed a 1-0 lead just four batters into the contest on an RBI single from John Menken. Menken extended the lead with a sacrifice fly in the third. Jared Welch stretched the lead to 3-0 with an RBI single in the fourth. After Joliet scored in the bottom of the inning, the Boomers did not allow another run. Ty Nelson hit his first homer with the Boomers this season in the sixth and scored two more runs in the eighth.

Clark Labitan worked a pair of innings and Jake Joyce worked the ninth to combine on the victory. Nelson reached in all four plate appearances and scored two runs. Menken and Welch finished with 2 RBI each. Ken Kirshner notched a pair of hits and a pair of steals.
