Wheaton library Friends book sale off to successful start, organizers say

The Friends of the Wheaton Public Library annual book sale was off to a successful start Wednesday.

Carolyn DeAre, book sale co-chairwoman, said the parking lot at the library, 225 N. Cross St., was full throughout the morning.

“It's going great,” she said Wednesday afternoon. “We've had a really good response. I would say our crowds are about on point with what they've been in the past.”

The sale will run 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Hardcover books are $3 and trade paperback books are $2. Mass market paperback books, which are smaller sized books — often romance, thriller or mystery novels — are 50 cents. Children's books range from 25 cents to $3.

There will be some price reductions Friday, but the best deal will come Saturday, when patrons can pay $5 to fill a grocery bag supplied by book sale organizers.

Cash, check and credit card are accepted at the sale. Organizers estimate there are about 30,000 books available. Audio and visual items, including DVDs, CDs, computer games and audiobooks, are now being sold at a separate sale, which is scheduled to take place Friday, Sept. 25, to Sunday, Sept. 27.
