Elgin man charged in Palatine home invasion

Palatine police have charged an Elgin man with home invasion and criminal trespass to residence, saying he broke into the apartment of his ex-girlfriend shortly after noon on Tuesday.

Bond for Albert Moore III, 29, whose last known address was on the 300 block of Longford Drive in Elgin, was set at $25,000 Thursday. He needs to post 10 percent to be released from Cook County Jail. His next court date is Sept. 15.

According to police, the 25-year-old victim called 911 to report that her ex-boyfriend was trying to force his way into her apartment on the 300 block of North Smith Street in Palatine.

Moore broke down the door of the apartment and then forced open the door of the bedroom to which the victim had retreated, police said in a news release. As the victim was bracing herself against the door, she was struck in the face and injured when it was forced open, police said.

Police reported that Moore threatened to kill the victim as she repeatedly asked him to leave the apartment. Officers arrived shortly afterward and arrested Moore as he attempted to leave.
