Pest control worker injured from electric shock in West Dundee

A pest control worker was injured by an electric shock Wednesday while working in West Dundee, officials said.

The man, 21, who is an employee at Earth Pest Control in Oswego, was using a 29-foot aluminum pole for routine outdoor maintenance at an office building at 770 Beacon St., when he was shocked, fire officials said.

West Dundee Police Sgt. Tony Gorski and a company supervisor were administering CPR to the unidentified man, who did not have a pulse, when the West Dundee Fire Department arrived on the scene shortly after 2 p.m., authorities said.

Gorski used an automated external defibrillator on the man, who started to show signs of improvement after the first shock, Fire Chief Randy Freise said.

He was taken to Advocate Sherman Hospital in Elgin, where his condition continued to improve, authorities said.

Freise said the man was alert, talking and aware of his surroundings Wednesday.

"The police and fire crews did a great job," Freise said. "Because of that, it was a good outcome."

Though the cause of the electric shock is not verified, officials said ComEd investigators believe the aluminum pole may have touched a 7,200-volt overhead transmission line.

ComEd officials are continuing to investigate the accident.
