Failure to repair road signs an insult

"If a window is broken and left unrepaired, people walking by will conclude that no one cares and no one is in charge." May I be so bold as to suggest this applies to road signs, albeit at a lesser scale, too?

There has been a road sign leaning at a 10-degree angle on state Route 60/83 in Mundelein, near Hawley, for well over two months. There are two road signs on state Route 176, between Mundelein and Wauconda, that have been in serious disrepair for over two months.

Maybe the state thinks the Mundelein area is a dump.

The same situation occurred earlier this year. At that time, I emailed my two state representatives. One did not respond. The other relayed a message from IDOT that the signs would be repaired "when the ground thawed."

Rejecting that infantile answer, I emailed the Daily Herald. When my letter was published, amazingly, the signs were repaired. Pure and total coincidence, right?

This time I'm not wasting my time with my state representatives.
