Pedestrian killed by train in Mount Prospect

A Metra train running an express route struck and killed a pedestrian Tuesday night in downtown Mount Prospect, authorities said.

Train 651, which was scheduled to make its next stop in Arlington Heights, struck the unidentified person near the Mount Prospect station at 6:30 p.m., according to Meg Reile, a Metra spokeswoman.

Trains in both directions were stopped until police and investigators from the Cook County medical examiner's office could provide the all-clear, Reile said. Service to the Union Pacific Northwest Line had been restored by 8:30 p.m.

Some trains faced delays of up to two hours as a result of the accident.
