Blackberry Basil Compote with Goat Cheese & Crackers

2 cups fresh raspberries and/or blackberries

⅓ cup dry red wine

⅓ cup sugar

Fresh ground black pepper

½ cup sliced basil leaves

6 ounces goat cheese

Crackers of choice

Gently mash berries, wine and sugar in saucepan. Bring to a boil.

Simmer, stirring regularly, until thick (about 10 minutes). Add ground black pepper to taste.

Chill and serve alongside cheese, basil and crackers. Keeps for three days.

Serves 4-6
