Elgin Donor Club book review to explore life of Shirley Temple

This year, the Donor Club of Elgin is introducing a new speaker to the annual Book Review. The fundraising event will be held Thursday, Sept. 24, at the Elgin Country Club.

Jenny Riddle is an acclaimed book reviewer who entertains audiences with her interpretations of best-selling books where she becomes the character telling their true life story.

Riddle will present the book "The Little Girl Who Fought the Great Depression: Shirley Temple and 1930s America" by John Kasson.

The doors will open at 11 a.m. with lunch at noon. There will be homemade cookies, peanut brittle and breads for sale, as well as gently used books. A basket raffle will also be held. Tickets for the book review are $30 and available through club members.

The Donor Club of E lgin has been an active philanthropic club since 1913 and founded the Elgin Day Care Center in 1920. They have continued to support this center and several others organizations including the Community Crisis Center, All Peoples Interfaith Food Pantry, Well Child Center, Fox Valley Volunteer Hospice, and PADS of Elgin. All proceeds from the Book Review are donated to local charities to benefit area residents.
