Prosecutors: Streamwood man held on $250,000 bail

A Streamwood man who authorities say has failed to show up for 20 required court appearances was ordered held on a total bail of $250,000 Friday.

Ryan Young, 31, who has bond forfeiture warrants pending out of the Rolling Meadows courthouse and DuPage County, was arrested early Thursday in the 2700 block of Bode Road in Streamwood, said Cook County assistant state's attorney David Shin.

Police arrested Young about 2:30 a.m. after they stopped him for lack of proper vehicle registration. Young initially gave police a false name, said Shin. After he gave them his correct name, police discovered Young's driving privileges had been revoked for a DUI, said Shin, adding that Young had been convicted six times for driving on a revoked license and was sentenced to prison on those charges in 2012 and 2007.

"The problem I have, I put you on a $45,000 D-bond (in 2014 when he posted 10 percent to be released) and you never came back to court," said Cook County Judge Joseph Cataldo, who issued a bond forfeiture warrant for Young last year after he failed to appear in court on a charge of driving on a revoked license.

Cataldo set bail at $100,000 for Young's current charge and $150,000 for his failure to appear in court.

Young was convicted of misdemeanor DUI in 2004 and 2006, said Shin. He also has theft convictions from 2001 and 2002 along with a 2011 battery conviction, Shin said.

He next appears in court on Sept. 10. He has to post $25,000 to be released from jail.
