App reviews: Rdio, Clumsy Ninja

Rdio has released an update to its music streaming app that is aimed at helping separate it from the pack. The latest version includes the ability to access live radio, thanks to a partnership with Cumulus that gives it a way to bring 500 stations across the country.

Even though the radio stations play live, users can interact with tracks as if they were on the service's software-generated stations.

The radio feature adds to Rdio's broader options for listening, such as finding curated playlists. For some features, such as the ability to download songs on demand or to play offline, you'll have to pay for Rdio's subscription service - either $4 or $10 a month. But if you're just a music lover who wants to bridge your car listening and work listening, or if you're homesick for a station, the free version will work well enough.

Free, for iOS and Android devices; premium subscriptions available for more features.

Clumsy Ninja

If you've ever dreamed of being a cool, stealthy, agile ninja, this is not your game. As you might guess, Clumsy Ninja puts you in charge of a charming but inept ninja who has trouble walking without tripping. What he needs is a friend to train him - you!

By way of training tools and a few objectives set out by the game the two of you can start whipping this ninja into shape.

Clumsy Ninja is more like a virtual-pet game than an action title, but the graphics in the game imbue your mostly silent ninja with a lot of personality that makes him endearing. You can high-five, lift and even tickle your ninja; it's surprising how attached you get to the little guy. Parents should know that the app asks you to spend a lot of in-game currency while you're training. So while you can play without spending real money, it certainly goes faster that way.

Free, for iOS and Android devices.
