Stevenson teacher wins top math honor

Stevenson High School Mathematics Director Darshan Jain has received a 2015 Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching, officials announced Thursday.

Jain was one of 108 teachers to receive the award, which is considered the nation's highest honor for K-12 mathematics and science (including computer science) teaching. Established by Congress in 1983, the award is given annually.

The award recognizes teachers who develop and implement a high-quality instructional program that is informed by content knowledge and enhances student learning. Jain and the other recipients received their awards from President Barack Obama during a ceremony at the White House in late July.
