Photo's Hotdogs in Mount Prospect gets new ownership

The approval of a liquor license served as an unofficial welcome to the purchasers of a longtime Mount Prospect business, whose former owner is retiring.

The "F2" liquor license, which provides for the sale of beer and wine at dining tables, was granted by the village board to Photo's Hotdogs, 1708 Kensington Road. The sale was contingent on getting approval of the license. The business formerly didn't serve alcohol.

The purchaser, Bhavik Modi, and his cousin, Ashish Modi, whose credentials as a former manager of a liquor establishment in Woodridge were helpful with the license application, appeared before trustees at Tuesday's meeting.

Although neither of the cousins has experience in the restaurant industry, they said owning and operating a community business is their "American dream."

"We love food," Bhavik Modi told the board. "We figured a restaurant would be a good place to start."

Bhavik Modi said he recognized the diversity in the clientele - ranging from families with small children to people working across the street, as well as members of the senior community. He said the goal is to serve the highest quality food at an affordable price with great service. He also said he plans to expand the menu.

Trustee Richard Rogers pointed out that Photo's has become an institution in the village.

"I'm glad that you are taking over that role and wish you a lot of success in selling hot dogs here in the village," he said.

Mayor Arlene Juracek noted that Photo's has worked with many charitable organizations, implying she's hoping the new owners will do likewise.
