A number of suburban schools made a new list of the best high schools in the nation. Newsweek yesterday released a list of the top 500 in America. The rankings include 30 schools from Illinois - and more than half of them are suburban. Full story.

One eastbound I-90 ramp from Arlington Heights Road to close

It's time for Plan B if you're used to hopping on the eastbound Jane Addams Tollway (I-90) from northbound Arlington Heights Road. As part of the ongoing rebuild of I-90, the Illinois tollway will close the eastbound ramp to Chicago from northbound Arlington Heights Road starting next week through October. Full story.

Des Plaines wants flashing lights at crossing where pedestrian killed

Des Plaines officials want to install flashing lights that walkers and bicyclists can activate at the push of a button at a downtown crossing where two pedestrian crashes, one of them fatal, happened within hours of each other last month. Officials say the high-visibility "rapid flashing beacons" would be placed near the Miner Street median. Full story.

Walker Bros. pancake house coming to Schaumburg

Walker Bros., The Original Pancake House, will open a Schaumburg location in the late spring of 2016 at the former Applebee's building in the village's Town Square, according to the company's website. Village officials recently found success landing new tenants for not only the former Applebee's in Town Square but also the shopping center's former Dominick's store. Full story.

Rolling Meadows man charged with sexually abusing girl

A Cook County judge set bail at $500,000 yesterday for a Rolling Meadows man who authorities say sexually abused a 9-year-old girl. Full story.

LeGere: Big opportunity right in front of Bears' Wilson

The Chicago Bears' offense struggled to move the ball in yesterday's practice against the Colts at their Indianapolis training facility. It will continue to do so until Alshon Jeffery returns from a calf injury and someone steps up to fill the role envisioned for first-round pick Kevin White. Two Illini golfers win in U.S. Amateur's first round

Illinois coach Mike Small was delighted that four of his players were among the 312 qualifiers for this week's 115th U.S. Amateur at Olympia Fields Country Club. He was even more happy that two of them, Alex Burge and Thomas Detry, were among the winners in Wednesday's first round of matches. Full story.

Cougars lose 4-2 to Cedar Rapids

The Kane County Cougars (37-14, 73-46) only had a short-lived lead in last night's 4-2 loss to the Cedar Rapids Kernels (28-23, 69-52) at Veterans Memorial Stadium. Trailing the Kernels 1-0 in the third inning, the Cougars offense took advantage of a leadoff walk with RBI singles from Chuck Taylor and Henry Castillo as they took a 2-1 advantage. Full story.
